Undergraduate Advisor Information

Advising for undergraduate majors in Physics or Physics and Astronomy is done in one of three different possible modes:

  • Freshmen and Sophomores are usually advised by professional advisors in the Dean's Office.
  • Honors Students are advised by an honors advisor.
  • Juniors and Seniors are advised in the department. Students majoring in Physics are advised by Dr. Craig Wiegert and students majoring in Physics and Astronomy are advised by Dr. J.-P. Caillault.

The department strongly recommends that students immediately get in contact with Dr. Shaw or Dr. Mon, as appropriate, as soon as they decide to or think they might be interested in majoring in the Department of Physics and Astronomy. One reason for this is that it allows students to establish personal relationships with departmental faculty, which we view to be important. In addition, there are often subtleties of scheduling of required courses which departmental advisors are more likely to anticipate.
